“What did the other guy look like?” the old man asked his scraped up and bloodied grandson as the grandson limped up the driveway carrying what remained of his bicycle. In one road rash covered hand were the handle bars. In the other was the frame, both pieces of it. Having been left in the elements to rust out, corrosion had taken its toll on the steel frame. It had broken in multiple places while on a leisurely ride down the street. And yet, all of these bumps and bruises could have been avoided by simply using a more durable material.

The use of titanium in bicycles is on the rise as it is a perfect application. Titanium, while reducing weight, adds strength and corrosion resistance. Grade 9 (3Al-2.5V) titanium tubing is ideal for frames. It offers amazing strength, while allowing for flexibility. The use of titanium tubing in bicycle frames is nothing new, however the cost has always been more than the average rider is willing to pay. Allied Titanium’s mission is to change that. We offer affordable titanium to the masses, including bike owners.
With its high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance, titanium is the optimal metal for bicycles. Even on aluminum and steel bikes, switching out steel fasteners for high strength titanium fasteners makes sense because titanium bolts, nuts and screws are lighter, stronger and completely corrosion free. With the need to go harder and faster, titanium is perfect for today’s bicycle owner.
