Lag screws are also known as lag bolts. These lag screws are hex head and made out of True Titanium(TM), specifically Grade 5 (6A-4V) Titanium. The (6A-4V) means that it is an alloy of 6 % aluminum and 4% vanadium with the balance being titanium. Grade 5 titanium's yield strength is 128,000 PSI (880 Mpa) or better. This is three and a half times stronger than stainless steel.
Allied Titanium first developed these lag screws to attach spreaders to sailboat masts made out of wood. Titanium is corrosion free and compatible with all living things, so when used in wood, it doesn't cause the wood to deteriorate like steel, stainless steel or galvanized steel does. This is exactly why Allied's customer wanted to use titanium in his beautiful wood masts.
